About M.N.
Marion N. Cothran Jr, better known as M.N. by most everyone, was born and raised in East Gadsden, AL. 13 days after graduating from High School, he married his High School sweetheart, Dianne Nichols on June 13th, 1965. She has been his best friend, companion, and love of his life for the past 42 plus years. They have 3 children, Marty, Nicole and Kim and 4 grandchildren, Krislyn, Collin, Rodney Jace (R.J.) and Cason.

MN worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co before going into the military. He joined/drafted into the Navy in 1969. His military experiences were varied and wonderful. He attended Navy Nuclear Power School, submarine training school, and several other schools related to his military training in the electrical field. He was military trained as a drug counselor, human resources specialist and served aboard the USS Bang SS 385. He worked as a Drug Counselor in R.I., CT, Naples, Italy and ILL. In 1974, he was one of only two Navy military men selected to work at the White House Communications Agency in Washington, D.C. He was assigned to the White House as Supervisor of the Emergency Relocation Complex at the White House during the Ford and Carter Administration. He retired from the Navy in 1986.
In 1990, MN returned to college at Jacksonville State University where he received a B.S. degree in Psychology. He then worked in the Mental Health field and with Job Corps as a Counselor and Supervisor of Counseling for several years.
His life today is built around his wife, children and grandchildren. His wife is an excellent teacher and has been the  most important thing in his life for the past 42 years and is still his bride of 1965! They live in East Gadsden and will be there until they lay to rest in Crestwood.

MN got into radio by accident. J. Holland asked him to come on his show one morning some years back to discuss a certain topic he had some expertise in, and over the next few years he worked not only with J but with Carl Brady. When Carl made his move to TV, he was given the opportunity to do a one-hour segment each morning and accepted.

After a few days on the show, Lowercase J and he were talking about what to name the show and it was he who came up with the "Hour of Challenge". It has caught on and been well received by the listening audience.

As he's said many times on the radio, "I am proud to be an American, and I will defend it to the end". He feels he's been given the opportunity to express this belief and considers it a great priveledge to share it with his listeners.
